Luther Burbank Savings was an FDIC insured privately-owned thrift institution focusing on traditional savings and loan services. It was merged into WaFd Bank on March 1, 2024 and the Luther Burbank name is no longer in use. It offered a diverse range of banking services including checking and money market accounts, certificates of deposit, online banking as well as apartment, commercial and residential lending. Luther Burbank Savings was a community focused, portfolio lender, which meant that loan decisions were based on internal guidelines, not secondary market or Wall Street expectations. With about 300 employees, the company had branches in Beverly Hills, Encino, Los Altos, Pasadena, San Rafael, and Burbank, California. The Bank was established in 1982 and was headquartered in Santa Rosa, California. As of June 30, 2017, it had $5.7 billion in total assets, $3.7 billion in deposits and $5 billion in loans. WaFd, Inc. completed its merger with Luther Burbank Corporation effective 12:00 am on March 1, 2024, and Luther Burbank Savings was merged into Washington Federal Bank, which traded as WaFd Bank and took that as its legal name on September 25, 2025. The FDIC records certificate 32178 as inactive from March 1, 2024 and 15 branches as transferred to WaFd Bank of Seattle, Washington (FDIC certificate 28088). In its final call report, at December 31, 2023, Luther Burbank Savings reported $8.23 billion in total assets and $5.87 billion in deposits, and Luther Burbank Corporation deregistered its securities with the Securities and Exchange Commission on March 1, 2024.
