Virgin Money is a retail banking brand of Nationwide Building Society. It was formerly the banking arm of Richard Branson's Virgin Group, and had around 3,000 employees serving more than 3 million customers through a network of over 70 stores and 7 customer lounges as well as through Post Office’s branches. The company offers current and savings accounts, personal secured loans, mortgages, investments, credit and debit cards, pensions as well as insurance services including car insurance, home insurance, life insurance, travel insurance and pet insurance. In 2012 Virgin Money acquired Northern Rock plc, one of the top five mortgage lenders in the UK with 1 million customers and £14 billion mortgage book. Virgin Money USA entered into dissolution in 2010, and is no longer listed as a Virgin property. The company was listed on the London Stock Exchange and was a member of the FTSE 250 Index; the listing ended when Nationwide Building Society acquired Virgin Money UK plc on October 1, 2024. As of December 31, 2017, Virgin Money Holdings (UK) plc had total assets of £41.1 billion, customer deposits of £30.8 billion and loans of £37.1 billion. Virgin Money had a lower risk mortgage book than the majority of challenger banks. The company’s total mortgage balance amounted to £33.851 billion as of March 2018.

Virgin Money is no longer an independent listed bank. CYBG plc, which had acquired the Virgin Money business, was renamed Virgin Money UK PLC on October 30, 2019. Nationwide Building Society acquired Virgin Money UK plc on October 1, 2024, ending its London Stock Exchange listing, and following High Court approval on February 23, 2026 the Virgin Money business transferred to Nationwide on April 2, 2026. Accounts and products that have moved to Nationwide continue to be called Virgin Money, although the business is no longer a bank in its own right. Virgin Money UK PLC was re-registered as the private company Virgin Money UK Limited on July 28, 2026, and its registered office moved from Newcastle to Nationwide House, Pipers Way, Swindon SN38 1NW; Virgin Money Holdings (UK) plc, at the Jubilee House address given above, had been re-registered as a private limited company on August 9, 2022. The Virgin Money branch network remains in place, with a stated commitment to keep all branches open until at least 2030.
