Below is a list of the largest banks in the world ranked by total assets. For the fifth year in a row, Industrial & Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) is the world's largest bank by assets. ICBC's total assets reached 22.883 trillion yuan (US$3.55 trillion) at the end of March 2016. With approximately 500 million customers, it is also the world's largest bank by deposits, loans, number of branches and employees and the second largest bank by market capitalization after Wells Fargo. Four of the top 5 banks in the list are Chinese financial institutions. The top 50 banks include 12 Chinese banks, 6 US banks, 5 UK banks, 5 French banks, 5 Japanese banks, 4 banks from Australia, 3 from Canada, 2 from Germany, 2 from Italy, 2 from Spain and 2 banks from Switzerland. The top 10 banks hold combined assets of over $25 trillion.
