Zenith Bank Plc is one of the biggest and most profitable banks in Nigeria and in all of West Africa with total assets of N2.478 trillion (US$15.22 billion) and loans and advances of N972.242 billion (US$5.972 billion) as of June 30, 2012. The company operates through more than 300 local branches and employs over 3,900 people. In addition to Nigeria, the bank has branches in the Gambia, Ghana, Sierra Leone, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. Zenith Bank was established in May 1990 and started operations in July same year as a commercial bank. It became a public limited company in June 2004 and bank’s shares were listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange in October 2004. The bank presently has a shareholder base of about one million. The operating results of Zenith Bank since it went public in 2004 indicate an impressive performance on all parameters. Total assets grew by 927% from N193.3 billion as at the end of June 2004 to N1.79 trillion (US$11.8 billion) in December 2010. Within the same period, shareholders funds rose from N15.6 billion to N363.6 billion, indicating an increase of 2331 per cent while total deposits jumped by 1008 per cent from N131 billion to N1.32 trillion. Godwin Emefiele is Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Bank.
