HSBC Bank Chile, the Chilean banking unit of UK-based HSBC Group, has been present in the country since 1981. The Bank focuses on corporate banking and global Treasury. HSBC Holdings, the parent company of the HSBC Group, is one of the top financial institutions in the world with assets of about US$2.7 trillion. HSBC Group announced in September 2011 it would sell its retail banking business in Chile to Banco Itau Chile. HSBC will continue to operate in Chile, concentrating on its strengths in Global Banking and Markets and Commercial Banking.
