Banesto (Banco Espanol de Credito) is a retail bank, 89.3% owned by Banco Santander. Banesto was established on May 1, 1902 and is currently among the top five financial groups in Spain, operating more than 1,700 branches and serving over three million individual customers. It also has foreign branches in the United States, Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Chile. The Bank’s business is structured in three divisions: Retail Banking, Wholesale Banking and Company Banking. Wholesale Banking covers corporate banking, treasury, capital markets, stock market brokerage (via Banesto bolsa, S.V.B) and international business. In November 2010, Banesto's Board appointed Antonio Basagoiti Garcia-Tunon Director and Chairman in place of Ana Patricia Botín-Sanz de Sautuola y O'Shea (daughter of Santander president Emilio Botín). As of March 31, 2012, Banesto had €108.876 billion in total assets, €54.4 billion in customer's deposits, €67.33 billion in total loans and €5.79 billion in total equity.
