Banesto (Banco Espanol de Credito, S.A.) was a Spanish financial group owned by Banco Santander. The Bank operated more than 1,700 branches and served over three million individual customers. The company provided a wide range of products and services to corporate and retail customers including savings accounts, consumer and business loans, mortgages, mutual funds, credit and debit cards, insurance, retirement plans, investment banking, private banking, treasury products, international banking services and more. Banesto was established on May 1, 1902 with headquarters in Madrid. As of March 31, 2012, it had €108.876 billion in total assets, €54.4 billion in customer's deposits, €67.33 billion in total loans and €5.79 billion in total equity.

In 2013, Santander Group fully absorbed its local subsidiary Banesto.
