Banco Santander-Chile (NYSE: BSAC) is the largest bank in Chile in terms of total assets, deposits, loans and shareholders’ equity. It operates as a subsidiary of Spanish financial services giant Santander Group. With about 11,000 employees, Santander Chile provides a wide range of financial products and services to more than 2.4 million retail and corporate customers. It offers current and savings accounts, personal and auto loans, mortgage loans, commercial loans, debit and credit cards, life and general insurance as well as mutual funds, cash management, investment management, treasury services, leasing, factoring, securitization services, financial advisory services, online banking and more. Banco Santander Chile has the largest private branch network in Chile with 415 branches, of which 265 branches under Santander brand name, 83 branches under Banefe brand and 53 branches under Select brand. It also operates approximately 1,300 ATMs across the country. The legal predecessor of Santander Chile is Banco Santiago which was incorporated on September 7, 1977. In 1997, Banco Santiago merged with Banco O’Higgins and became a controlled subsidiary of Santander Group. As of March 31, 2017, Banco Santander Chile had total assets of CLP 36.709 trillion (US$56 billion), customer loans of CLP 27.5 trillion, customer deposits of CLP 20.1 trillion and shareholders’ equity of CLP 2.97 trillion.
