Banco do Brasil S.A. (Bank of Brazil) is the oldest bank in Brazil and one of the largest in Latin America, with total assets of BRL 2.585 trillion as of June 30, 2026. It is no longer the largest bank in Brazil by assets: on Central Bank of Brazil IF.data figures reproduced in the 2025 Form 20-F of Itaú Unibanco, at December 31, 2025 Itaú Unibanco ranked first with BRL 2.742 trillion in total assets, ahead of Banco do Brasil (BRL 2.454 trillion) and Caixa Econômica Federal (BRL 2.203 trillion). It is controlled by the Brazilian government but its stock is traded on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange. The company focuses on the retail and wholesale segments providing savings and current accounts, consumer, commercial and agribusiness loans, time deposits, asset management, investments, life and health insurance, property/casualty insurance, pension plans, credit and debit cards, government banking services, foreign trade services, online banking and much more. BB is absolute leader in loans to Brazilian agribusiness with a market share of 61% as well as market leader in payroll loans (23% market share). At June 30, 2026 Banco do Brasil had 83,991 employees and served its customers through 3,931 branches, 1,396 service posts and 5,049 electronic service points of its own, together with the 27,771 terminals of the shared Banco24Horas network. Internationally, as of the same date the Bank operated eight branches, two sub-branches, three subsidiaries (Banco do Brasil Americas, Banco Patagonia and BB AG Vienna), two shared-service units and two securities arms; in the United States, Banco do Brasil Americas has four branches. BB clients can also use a network made up of 499 correspondent banks in 84 countries in order to carry out transactions all over the world. In November 2008, Banco do Brasil purchased 72% of Banco Nossa Caixa, a commercial bank owned by the state of Sao Paulo, for R$5.4 billion. In January 2010, Banco do Brasil acquired 49.99% of the voting shares (50% of the total capital) of Banco Votorantim for R$4.2 billion. In 2010, Banco do Brasil acquired a 51% stake in Banco Patagonia for $480 million. Banco Patagonia is one of the ten largest banks in Argentina with more than 800,000 customers and 180 branches, mainly in Buenos Aires. Since 2000, Banco do Brasil is one of the four most-profitable Brazilian banks (the others being Itaú Unibanco, Bradesco, Santander Brasil). As of March 31, 2017, Bank of Brazil had total loan portfolio of BRL 638.3 billion. The company was established on October 12, 1808 and is headquartered in Brasilia, Brazil.
