Cassa Depositi e Prestiti S.p.A. (CDP) is an Italian financial institution established in 1850. It is a joint-stock company under public control. The Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance holds 80% of the capital; private bank foundations hold 18.4% and the remaining 1.5% in treasury shares. CDP provides lending products to state and regional governments, local authorities, public bodies, and public-law entities. Following the acquisition by the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance, the CDP Group was born with renewed ambitions to support the internationalization of Italian enterprises and international cooperation. In 2015, the Italian Government and the European Union assigned CDP the role of National Promotion Institution. CDP is the main shareholder of ENI Spa (Italy’s biggest energy group), TERNA Spa (a major operator of energy transmission grids) and SNAM Spa. As of December 31, 2015, Cassa Depositi e Prestiti had EUR 398 billion in assets, EUR 290 billion in loans and employed over 30,000 people.
