|Banca Sella in Biella, Italy|
Banca Sella Holding S.p.A. is the parent company of Gruppo Banca Sella. Besides the usual activities of a parent company, and the other centralized bank services, Banca Sella Holding performs the activities of Local Paying and Transfer Agency and mutual fund order routing. In this role, it provides services both for companies belonging to the group and for other companies. It was founded in 1886 and is headquartered in Biella, Italy. Gruppo Banca Sella is an Italian, privately owned, independent group. The group retains strong links to the traditions of the territory in which it developed, but is at the same time dynamic and innovative. Gruppo Banca Sella comprises 23 companies operating in different geographical areas and offering a range of financial products and services. It employs more than 4,500 people. Since 2003 the Sella group has been restructuring through a reduction in the number of its subsidiaries from 43 to around 20, by merging related businesses (including two banking subsidiaries in Southern Italy in June 2008) and liquidating selected subsidiaries and by a different subdivision of the activities among its subsidiaries. Some back office activities have been outsourced to Romania. The Sella group has achieved better geographical diversification through gradual expansion over the years, with 40% of the group's branches now located in its home region; however, its domestic market shares are still limited, at about 0.5% of loans and 0.9% of deposits as of September 2008. Given weaker economic conditions, the 2008-2010 strategic plan envisages a more conservative strategy of organic growth than in the previous plan, adding mid-sized branches mainly in central Italy to complete its nationwide banking network. Banca Sella is a relatively small bank, which has traditionally operated in the Biella Province (in the wealthy northwestern Italian region of Piedmont) where it enjoys a strong position. In the past three decades, it has gradually increased its regional coverage gaining market shares of 6.2% and 4.7% as of September 2008 for deposits and loans respectively in the region of Piedmont.
