Bank of Ireland (NYSE: IRE, LSE: BKIR) is one of the 'Big Four' Irish banks. It was established in 1783 by Royal Charter. The Bank provides a wide range of financial services including current and savings accounts, fixed term deposits, consumer and business loans, debit and credit cards, mortgages, investments, pensions, life insurance, home insurance and travel insurance, online banking, international payments, leasing, treasury solutions, corporate and commercial finance as well as private banking. The company's subsidiaries include Bank of Ireland (UK), Bank of Ireland Life Holdings, ICS Building Society (ICS) and Bank of Ireland Mortgage Bank (BoIMB). With over 13,500 employees, the company operates over 250 retail branches in Ireland and approximately 50 branches in Northern Ireland. As of December 31, 2001, Bank of Ireland had total assets of €155 billion.
