First National Bank (FNB) (Eerste Nasionale Bank (ENB)) is the oldest and one of the largest banks in South Africa. Its history can be traced back to 1838. A landmark development in FNB's history took place in 1998 when the financial services interests (which included their shareholding in First National Bank) of Rand Merchant Bank Holdings and Anglo American Corporation (AAC) were merged to form FirstRand Group. In the process, FNB was delisted from the JSE on 22 May 1998 to become a wholly-owned subsidiary of FirstRand. FNB, WesBank and RMB now trade as divisions of FirstRand Bank. First National Bank provides a wide range of banking products and services to over 6 million retail, commercial and corporate clients throughout South Africa. It offers cheque and savings accounts, personal, student and home loans, credit cards, Vehicle Finance, business accounts and business loans, business investments, online, telephone and cellphone banking and more. It also offers private banking, Islamic banking and insurance services. The Bank has subsidiaries in Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland and Zambia. FNB Zambia is the most recent addition to the FNB network and it opened its doors in April 2009. FNB Mozambique opened in July 2007 and has 4 branches and Corporate Banking Office in Maputo. The three oldest and largest subsidiaries FNB Swaziland, Botswana and Namibia have well-established national branch networks.
