Capitec Bank Holdings Limited (CPI: JSE) is a commercial bank headquartered in Stellenbosch, a town in the Western Cape province of South Africa. It was founded in 2001 and listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange in 2002. Capitec is a South African retail bank that serves both individuals and businesses, but does not provide business banking for corporations, companies, partnerships or trusts. Capitec Bank has changed banking in South Africa. It focuses on effective system-driven solutions and centralised control and minimizes administration and costs for clients. With about 7,200 employees, the Bank serves over 3.7 million customers through a network of over 500 branches nationwide. As of February 29, 2012, it had R23.62 billion (US$3.15 billion) in total assets, R17.69 billion (US$2.36 billion) in deposits and R5.185 billion (US$0.69 billion) in shareholders' equity.
