New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) is the oldest stock exchange in the United States and the largest stock exchange in the world by market value of its listed companies. Over 3,100 companies, both domestic and foreign, are listed on the NYSE. As of September 30, 2016, these companies had a combined market capitalization of $19.5 trillion with shares outstanding of 451.698 billion and average price of share listed of $43.21. The New York Stock Exchange is open for trading Monday through Friday 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM, closing early on rare occasions. The market also shuts down during nine holidays throughout the year. NYSE was established in May 1792 and operates as a subsidiary of Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), an American network of exchanges and clearing houses.
