Standard Chartered is universal bank and provides deposit, credit, trust, and investment services to a wide range of retail, business, and institutional clients. Despite its British base around 90% of its profits, come from Africa, Asia and the Middle East. The bank has operations in more than 74 countries and serves customers through a network of more than 1,750 branches and nearly 6,000 ATMs.

Recent acquisitions
In 2008, Standard Chartered completed acquisition of American Express Bank, a wholly owned subsidiary of American Express Company, with operations in over 45 countries. In February 2008, Standard Chartered acquired South Korea's Yeahreum Mutual Savings Bank. In July 2009, Standard Chartered completed acquisition of First Africa Holdings. In June 2010, the Bank became an investor in Agricultural Bank of China, one of the top commercial banks in China.
