National Westminster Bank Plc (NatWest) is one of the largest retail and commercial bank in the United Kingdom. It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Royal Bank of Scotland Group. Traditionally considered one of the Big Four clearing banks, NatWest has a network of over 1,600 branches across the UK, about 250 branches in Ireland and serves over 8 million retail and corporate customers. In Ireland, NatWest operates through Ulster Bank subsidiary. The company provides a broad range of financial services including personal, business, commercial and private banking. It offers savings and current accounts (including student accounts), debit and credit cards (including student credit cards with a maximum credit limit of £500), mortgages, personal and business loans, insurance and retirement services, investments, wealth management, offshore banking, international payments, business overdrafts, trustee & depositary services and telephone and online banking. Its personal insurance products include car insurance, home insurance, life insurance, travel insurance and essentials contents insurance. It also offers business insurance such as trade insurance, retail insurance, office and professional insurance, hotel insurance and residential buy to let insurance. National Westminster Bank was founded in 1968 by the merger of National Provincial Bank and Westminster Bank. In March 2000, The Royal Bank of Scotland Group acquired NatWest for £21 billion that was the largest take-over in British banking history. In 2009, NatWest was voted the "Number one Bank for students" for the 5th Year running. As of June 30, 2016, it had £313.268 billion in total assets, £226.1 billion in customer deposits and £187.968 billion in loans and advances to customers.
