Deutsche Börse AG (or Deutsche Börse Group) is one of the world’s largest exchange organizations. Its products and services include securities and derivatives trading, clearing, netting and transaction settlement, custody, the development and operation of electronic trading systems. Deutsche Boerse itself does not trade actively; it organizes trading by providing the infrastructure, rules and monitoring trading participants. Deutsche Boerse operates the cash market at Frankfurt Stock Exchange with electronic Xetra trading platform as well as Eurex Exchange derivatives market through Eurex Frankfurt AG and Eurex Zurich AG. Eurex Clearing, a wholly owned subsidiary of Eurex Frankfurt AG, is one of the world’s leading clearing houses. In 2015, it cleared approximately 1.7 billion derivatives contracts. Eurex Clearing acts as the central counterparty for Eurex, Eurex Bonds, Eurex Repo, European Energy Exchange, Frankfurt Stock Exchange and the Irish Stock Exchange. Deutsche Boerse also owns Clearstream, the leading European organization for post-trading services.

In November 1997, Deutsche Boerse embarked on a new era in exchange history with Xetra. With Xetra, Deutsche Boerse has since provided regulated and controlled exchange trading with integrity, stability and safety for all trading participants. Deutsche Boerse’s Xetra system is one of the most efficient electronic trading platforms worldwide. On its first day of operation, 221 market participants in seven countries began trading in the system and closed a total of over 4,930 trades. Today, some 250 market participants in 18 countries are connected to the system. At peak times, Xetra processes up to 2.1 million orders per day. Deutsche Boerse AG itself has been listed since 5 February 2001. Its value has increased roughly threefold since then. With a market capitalization of around $15 billion (October 2016), the company is one of the most highly valued exchange organizations in the world. The majority of its shares are owned by international institutional investors. Deutsche Boerse is included in the German blue-chip index DAX and EURO STOXX 50, the most important European benchmark index.

The company has locations in Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Spain, the Czech Republic and the United States as well as representative offices in Beijing, Berlin, Chicago, Dubai, Hong Kong, London, Moscow, New York, Paris, Shanghai, Singapore, Tokyo and Washington, D.C. As of September 30, 2016, over 600 companies were listed on Deutsche Boerse with a combined market capitalization of approximately $1.65 trillion.
