La Caixa (Caja de Ahorros y Pensiones de Barcelona) was one of the largest savings banks in Europe and the third largest financial group in Spain by assets and deposits. In June 2011, la Caixa transferred its banking business, including retail banking, private banking and asset management to CaixaBank. All branches of La Caixa now use CaixaBank name. The savings bank itself is today the Fundación Bancaria Caixa d’Estalvis i Pensions de Barcelona, “la Caixa”, which owns the CaixaBank brand. As of 30 June 2026 the CaixaBank Group reported total assets of €693.429 billion and served 20.9 million customers with 47,580 employees, 4,543 branches in Spain and Portugal and 12,233 ATMs.
