KBC Bank Ireland

KBC Bank Ireland plc was an Irish bank that provided a wide range of financial services to personal and business customers. It offered current accounts and deposit products, mortgages, personal and car loans, home improvement loans, credit and debit cards, life and home insurance, auto insurance, investments, online and mobile banking, foreign exchange and other services. The Bank employed more than 1,000 people and had offices in Dublin, Galway, Kilkenny, Waterford, Limerick, Kildare and Cork. KBC Bank Ireland operated as a subsidiary of KBC Bank NV, one of the largest financial institutions in Belgium. KBC Group has had a presence in Ireland since 1978. As at December 31, 2016, KBC Bank Ireland had total assets of EUR 13.183 billion, customer deposits of EUR 4.983 billion and loans & advances to customers of EUR 10.750 billion.

KBC Bank NV announced the orderly, phased withdrawal of KBC Bank Ireland from the Irish market on April 16, 2021. Its performing loan portfolios, of EUR 8.0 billion, and its deposit book were sold to Bank of Ireland, with the acquisition completing in February 2023, and the last branch and the online and mobile banking services closed during 2023. The remaining accounts and servicing activity transferred to KBC Bank NV Dublin Branch on December 1, 2023, following the approval of the Minister for Finance on September 13, 2023. The company, by then renamed Exicon DAC, returned its banking licence to the Central Bank of Ireland with effect from April 30, 2024; a liquidator was appointed on May 15, 2024 and the company was dissolved on October 2, 2025. The Central Bank of Ireland’s register of credit institutions, run on September 1, 2026, lists no KBC Bank Ireland; the group’s only remaining Irish presence is KBC Bank NV Dublin Branch, a branch of the Belgian parent.
