Piraeus Bank

Piraeus Bank is one of the largest banks in Greece. As of June 30, 2024 the group reported total assets of EUR 76.6 billion, about six million customers, 371 branches and 2,053 ATMs. Its banking operations are concentrated in Greece: the foreign subsidiaries it held in Egypt, Cyprus, Serbia, Romania, Albania and Bulgaria were divested between 2015 and 2019. The company offers deposit accounts, mortgage and consumer loans, farming loans, debit and credit cards, stock exchange services, mutual funds, Greek treasury bonds, guaranteed capital products, merchant solutions, cash management, risk management, advisory services as well as car insurance, health insurance, accident and life insurance, photovoltaic insurance, business premises insurance and other services. The Bank has absorbed the “good” parts of Agricultural Bank, Millennium Bank, Geniki Bank, Panellinia Bank and the Greek networks of the three Cypriot banks (Bank of Cyprus, Cyprus Popular Bank and Elliniki Bank). At June 30, 2024, Piraeus Bank Group had customer deposits of EUR 59.6 billion and net loans of EUR 37.6 billion. The company was founded in 1916 and employed approximately 7,500 people at that date. In January 2021 the listed parent company was renamed Piraeus Financial Holdings S.A. after the banking business was hived down into a new subsidiary, Piraeus Bank S.A., and a share capital increase of EUR 1.4 billion was completed in April 2021. On November 27, 2025 Piraeus Bank S.A. completed the acquisition of 100% of Ethniki Holdings S.a.r.l., the parent company of Ethniki Insurance, for EUR 0.6 billion in cash.

The bank's issuer credit ratings have since returned to investment grade: Moody's rates its long-term deposits Baa1 and its short-term deposits P-2, with a stable outlook (rating action of April 21, 2026); Standard & Poor's rates it BBB- long-term and A-3 short-term, with a stable outlook (July 20, 2026); and Fitch rates it BBB- long-term and F3 short-term, with a positive outlook (July 1, 2026).
