HSBC Bank (Greece)

HSBC Bank (Greece) was the Greek branch business of HSBC Continental Europe, offering banking services to retail, corporate and institutional clients. It was sold to Pancreta Bank SA in a sale completed on 28 July 2023, and HSBC no longer maintains a banking presence in Greece.

It offered current and savings accounts, term deposits, debit and credit cards, internet cards, consumer loans and mortgages, internet and mobile banking, investing & planning as well as travel insurance, mortgage loans insurance, cards insurance, car insurance and other services. Through divisions like HSBC Commercial Banking and HSBC Global Banking and Markets, the company supported corporate expansion in Greece. HSBC in Greece was established in 1981 and operated 15 consumer and commercial branches and 19 ATMs across the country. As of August 31, 2015, HSBC Greece had total assets of EUR 3.510 billion.

Sale to Pancreta Bank

HSBC Continental Europe sold its branch operations in Greece to Pancreta Bank SA. HSBC records the sale as completed on 28 July 2023, after close of business, and directs former HSBC Greece customers to Pancreta Bank. Pancreta Bank announced on 31 July 2023 that it had absorbed the Greek operations of HSBC, giving the combined bank 62 service points across the country, more than 300,000 clients and consolidated assets exceeding EUR 3.5 billion.

Pancreta Bank was subsequently merged with Attica Bank, and the combined institution trades as CrediaBank S.A., which states that it operates 65 branches and is the fifth largest bank in Greece by total assets. The former Attica Bank website redirects to crediabank.com. The register of regular members of the Hellenic Bank Association lists CrediaBank and includes no HSBC entity, and the domain hsbc.gr no longer resolves.
