Bank Austria (or UniCredit Bank Austria AG) is one of biggest banks in the country with market shares ranging from 15 to 50 percent. It is the number one banking partner for Austrian companies. Since November 2005, Bank Austria has been a member of UniCredit Group, one of the leading banking groups in Europe. Within the UniCredit Group, Bank Austria is responsible for the growth region of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). It has one of the strongest capital bases among the large banks in Austria. Its Tier 1 ratio amounted to 12.9%. With over 35,000 full-time equivalent employees, the company operates a network of about 1,400 offices in the CEE region and 168 branches in Austria. As of September 30, 2016, it had total assets of EUR 195 billion, loans and receivables with customers of EUR 117.8 billion, deposits from banks of EUR 22.2 billion, deposits from customers of EUR 113.7 billion and equity of EUR 17.8 billion. Bank Austria was formed in 1991, through the merger of Zentralsparkasse und Kommerzialbank AG (est.1907) and Österreichische Länderbank AG (est.1880). The Global Finance named UniCredit Bank Austria "Best Trade Finance Provider” in the country (2017) for the ninth year in a row.
