Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) (Banque de Développement du Canada) is a financial institution owned by the Government of Canada. The company provides business loans and consulting services to help Canadian businesses grow, with a focus on small and medium-sized enterprises. It offers business loans for projects and working capital to protect cash flow and specialized financing for small and medium-sized independent finance and leasing companies. BDC Capital division offers a wide range of specialized financing, including venture capital, equity and growth and business transition capital. BDC Advantage unit provides a full range of non-financial services to entrepreneurs. The Business Development Bank of Canada is the only bank exclusively dedicated to entrepreneurs. With 2,100 employees, it serves more than 40,000 SMEs through 112 business centres from coast to coast. BDC also supports an additional 7,000 clients through securitization services. The company was established in 1944 as an arm of the Bank of Canada and is headquartered in Montreal, Quebec. As of December 31, 2016, BDC had total assets of C$24.8 billion and loans of C$21.3 billion.
