Standard Bank Group Limited (also trading as Stanbic Bank) is the largest African banking group by assets and earnings, operating in 20 countries in sub-Saharan Africa. The Standard Bank of South Africa Limited (SBSA) is the main operating unit of the Group. It is the largest residential mortgage lender and the largest credit card issuer in South Africa. With over 50,960 employees, the company has more than 1,220 branches and over 8,640 ATMs on the African continent. Outside the Africa, the Bank's operations span 11 countries including USA, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Isle of Man, Jersey, China, Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan and the UAE. The company is structured into three main business units: Personal & Business Banking (PBB), Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) and Wealth – Liberty. Standard Bank is listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and the Namibian Stock Exchange. At June 30, 2015, the company had total assets of R1.857 trillion (US$151 billion), loans of R1.045 trillion and deposits of R1.132 trillion. ICBC (Industrial and Commercial Bank of China), the world’s largest bank, is a 20% shareholder in Standard Bank Group. The company was established in 1862 and is headquartered in Johannesburg. As of September 30, 2016, the Group’s the market capitalization was R235 billion.
