Bidvest Bank Limited (BVBL) provides a wide range of foreign exchange products and services to individuals, businesses and corporations. The company is the leading seller of travellers cheques and foreign bank notes in South Africa. There are more than 60 currencies available. The Bank offers savings and investment accounts, forex services, vehicle and asset finance, commercial property finance, medical equipment finance, corporate payment cards, business loans, internet banking and ATM services. The Bank’s fleet and asset finance division is one of the top five leasing companies in South Africa. The company operates 80 retail banking branches nationwide and employs approximately 1,100 people. It was formerly known as Rennies Bank and changed its name in 2007. Bidvest Bank operates as a subsidiary of The Bidvest Group Ltd, an international business conglomerate that reported R51.4 billion in assets and more than 114,000 employees at June 30, 2017. In its results for the year ended June 30, 2025 Bidvest reported Bidvest Bank as a discontinued operation, having signed a sale and purchase agreement with Access Bank plc that was awaiting regulatory approval. In an announcement dated February 9, 2026 Bidvest stated that certain conditions were not fulfilled by Access Bank plc by the contractually agreed long stop date, resulting in the termination of the transaction, and that it had relaunched the disposal process while remaining the sole shareholder of the bank.
