Banco BPM S.p.A.

Banco BPM S.p.A. (BIT: BAMI) started operations in January 2017, after the merger of two cooperative banks Banco Popolare S.C. and Banca Popolare di Milano S.p.A. Currently, it is one of the largest banking groups in Italy along with UniCredit and Intesa Sanpaolo.

As at December 31, 2025 Banco BPM had approximately 19,000 employees and served some 3.6 million customers through around 1,400 branches across Italy. As of June 30, 2026, it had total assets of EUR 210.879 billion, net customer loans of EUR 101.2 billion, group customer financial assets of EUR 398 billion and 18,881 employees; total assets had stood at EUR 205.896 billion at December 31, 2025. At March 31, 2017, shortly after the merger that created it, the group employed 25,000 people and operated approximately 4,000 branches, with total assets of EUR 170.143 billion, deposits of EUR 117.6 billion and net customer loans of EUR 110 billion including EUR 58 billion in mortgage loans.

On April 11, 2025 Banco BPM acquired control of the Anima group through Banco BPM Vita. Anima is fully consolidated within the group and held EUR 213.1 billion of customer financial assets as at June 30, 2026. Banca Popolare di Milano, Aletti Gestielle SGR, ProFamily and SGS BP were subsidiaries of the group following the 2017 merger.

Monte dei Paschi di Siena exchange offer: On June 7, 2026 Banco BPM wrote to Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena expressing an interest in opening a dialogue on a possible merger, and on July 31, 2026 the Banco BPM board unanimously resolved to discontinue those consultations. Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena subsequently launched a voluntary public exchange offer for all of the shares of Banco BPM, announced in a notice dated August 25, 2026 and accompanied by notices dated August 13 and September 1, 2026. The offer remained outstanding in early September 2026. Banco BPM received EUR 97.4 million of dividends on its stake in Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena in the first half of 2026.
