SIX Swiss Exchange Ltd (formerly known as the SWX Swiss Exchange), based in Zurich, is the principal stock exchange in Switzerland and the fourth largest stock exchange in Europe with a market capitalization of approximately $1.5 trillion (September 2016). The company was created in 1993 through the merger of Switzerland's three stock exchanges in Geneva (est. 1850), Basle (est. 1876) and Zurich (est. 1873). SIX Swiss Exchange operates as subsidiary of SIX Group AG. SIX Group was formed in 2008 through the merger of SWX Group, SIS Group and Telekurs Group. SIX Group generates around one third of its revenue abroad and has a presence in 24 countries. In 2011, the Group sold its holding in the joint venture company Eurex to Deutsche Börse. SIX Group is owned by about 130 domestic and foreign banks, which are also its customers.

SLI (Swiss Leader Index) comprises the 30 largest and most liquid stocks on the Swiss equity market.
SPI (Swiss Performance Index) contains all of the shares traded on the SIX Swiss Exchange from companies based in Switzerland or Liechtenstein.
