London stock exchange (LSE) is the most important exchange in Europe and one of the largest in the world by trade volume. As of September 30, 2016, market capitalization of listed companies was US$5.7 trillion, making it the third largest stock exchange in the world and the largest in Europe. LSE is the most international of all the stock exchanges worldwide, with about 3,000 companies from over 70 countries admitted to trading on its markets. From conducting its business in the coffee houses of 17th century, it is one of the world’s oldest stock exchanges and can trace its history back more than 300 years. In 2007, LSE acquired Borsa Italiana for $2.3 billion to form the leading diversified exchange business, London Stock Exchange Group plc (LSEG). In 2013-2014, the Group acquired LCH Clearnet and Frank Russell Company. In 2015, London Stock Exchange Group completed acquisition of assets from XTF Inc, a U.S. provider of high-quality ETF data and ratings.
