Wells Fargo & Company (NYSE: WFC) is one of the largest financial services companies in the United States. It employs about 271,000 staff and serves more than 70 million customers through a network of over 9,000 stores (Wells Fargo and Wachovia stores) and 12,000 ATMs in North America and internationally. One in three households in America does business with Wells Fargo. The Company has three business segments: Community Banking, Wholesale Banking, and Wealth, Brokerage and Retirement.

In December 2008, Wells Fargo completed acquisition of Wachovia, the result of a sale forced by the U.S. government after it was determined that Wachovia was "systemically important" and therefore "too big to fail". Wells Fargo was founded on March 18, 1852, in New York City, and opened for business on July 13 of that same year — in San Francisco. In 2011, Wells Fargo was named America's Best Consumer Internet Bank by Global Finance Magazine. As of December 31, 2011, the Company had total assets of US$1,309.639 billion.
