Bank of America Corporation (NYSE: BAC) is the largest bank holding company in the United States by assets, and the second largest bank by deposits after JPMorgan Chase. Bank of America was originally headquartered in San Francisco. It merged with NationsBank in Charlotte in 1998 and retained the Bank of America name. Headquarters are now located in Charlotte. In 2005, the company acquired MBNA, a leading issuer of credit cards. MBNA is currently a part of Bank of America Card Services and the largest credit card issuer in the U.S. The bank's 2008 acquisition of Merrill Lynch made Bank of America the world's largest wealth manager and a major player in the investment banking industry.BoA generates approximately 91% of its revenues from the local market and continues to buy businesses in the United States.
