Bank of America Corporation (NYSE: BAC) is the second largest bank holding company in the United States by assets and deposits after J.P.Morgan Chase. It operates in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and over 30 countries. Bank of America was originally headquartered in San Francisco. In 1998, it merged with NationsBank in Charlotte and retained the Bank of America name. In 2005, it acquired MBNA, a leading issuer of credit cards. MBNA is currently a part of Bank of America Card Services and the largest credit card issuer in the country. After acquisition of Merrill Lynch in 2008, Bank of America is one of the world's largest wealth managers and a major player in the investment banking industry. BoA generates approximately 91% of its revenues from the local market and continues to buy businesses in the United States. The core of Bank of America's strategy is to be the number one bank in its domestic market. It provides unmatched convenience in the United States, serving approximately 47 million personal and small business customers through 4,629 retail banking offices and about 16,000 ATMs. As of September 30, 2016, BoA's total assets amounted to $2.195 trillion.
