Banco Nacional de Comercio Exterior, S.N.C. (or Bancomext) is a state-owned bank established on June 8, 1937. In 1985, it was transformed into a development banking institution as a result of the nationalization of the banking system. Bancomext is an instrument of the Mexican government to increase the competitiveness of Mexican companies involved in exports and imports. The Bank especially attempts to assist small and medium-sized businesses. Bancomext provides training services, information, financial assistance, project coordination and financing. It offers working capital loans, syndicated loans, corporate loans, equipment loans, structured credits, industrial warehouse leases, letters of credit, venture capital investment funds, appraisal services, fiduciary services, international export/import factoring, securities and buyer’s guarantees, foreign currency deposits, currency trading and money market services. Bancomext is a development bank in which all of its financial advisors are certified by the Mexican Association of Stock Market Brokers and authorized by the National Banking and Securities Commission. The company employs over 500 staff and is headquartered in Mexico City with offices elsewhere in the country. As of March 31, 2017, it had MXN 340.542 billion (US$19 billion) in total assets and MXN 176 billion (US$10 billion) in total loans.
