BBVA (Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria, S.A.), founded in 1857, is a multinational Spanish banking group. It is the second largest bank in Spain by assets and deposits and one of the largest banks in eurozone in terms of ROE and efficiency. It has offices and subsidiaries in Europe, North and South America and the Asia-Pacific region with a focus on its home market and the Americas. BBVA is the largest financial group in Mexico (BBVA Bancomer S.A.), one of the largest U.S. commercial banks (BBVA Compass) and one of the few large international groups operating in China and Turkey. With approximately 132,000 employees, BBVA Group serves 72 million customers in 35 countries through 8,374 branches and 31,214 ATMs, including 3,085 branches in Spain, 1,845 branches in Mexico, 1,104 branches in Turkey and 649 branches in the United States. BBVA shares are traded on the Spanish Stock Exchanges as well as on the London and Mexico stock markets. In addition, the shares of BBVA Continental, BBVA Provincial, BBVA Colombia, BBVA Chile, and BBVA Frances are listed on local stock markets. As of September 30, 2017, BBVA had total assets of EUR 690.8 billion, customer deposits of EUR 392.865 billion, customer loans of EUR 416.240 billion and total equity of EUR 54.4 billion.
