SNS REAAL is a Dutch financial services group that primarily focuses on the retail market in the Netherlands, including small and medium-sized businesses. The various brands of SNS REAAL, including SNS Bank, REAAL, RegioBank, Zwitserleven and ASN Bank, offer a broad range of financial products and services to all target groups in society. The brands all have their own image, procedures and customers. The banking services are offered through SNS Bank, while the insurances are offered through independent intermediaries. SNS REAAL Group was formed in 1997 from the merger of SNS Group and Reaal Group.

SNS Group - In 1987 two large regional savings banks merged to form SNS (the Dutch acronym stands for Samenwerkende Nederlandse Spaarbanken, meaning Cooperating Dutch Savings banks). From 1989 onwards, various other regional savings banks joined the group, among them the Stichting Bondsspaarbank Central, North and East Netherlands, in 1990. In the 1990s SNS Groep grew fast through mergers and acquisitions, including BLG Hypotheken, CVB Bank and NOG Verzekeringen. In 1996, Banque de Suez Nederland, including the subsidiary Suez Nederland Securities, was taken over (now SNS Securities).

Reaal Group is the product of a merger among various firms, including the insurers De Centrale and Concordia, the Hollandse Koopmansbank and the Algemene Spaarbank for the Netherlands. Between 1990 and 1997 REAAL Groep grew considerably, among other things due to acquisitions such as that of Hooge Huys Verzekeringen in 1996.
