Banco Provincia (Banco de la Provincia de Buenos Aires), founded on September 6, 1822, was the first bank in Spanish America. In 1856, it granted the first mortgage loan in the country. Today, Banco Provincia is one of the five largest banks in Argentina by assets and deposits and operates over 400 branches and the largest ATM network with about 1,700 units. It also has branches in Sao Paulo (Brazil) and Caymans Islands as well as representative offices in Panama, Santiago (Chile) and Madrid (Spain). With over 10,000 employees, Banco Provincia offers current and savings accounts, loans, credit and debit cards, investments, mutual funds, lines of credit, foreign trade, SME banking, agricultural banking, internet and mobile banking and other services. As of March 31, 2017, Banco de la Provincia de Buenos Aires had total assets of ARS 258.610 billion (US$16.8 billion) and deposits of ARS 200.255 billion (US$13 billion).
