Wema Bank Plc is a universal bank founded in 1945. It is the oldest indigenous commercial bank in Nigeria. Wema Bank provides commercial, consumer and institutional banking services. It offers current and savings accounts, personal loans, term/time loans, debit and credit cards, revenue collection, trade services, online and mobile banking as well as investments products such as fixed and call deposits, bond investments, treasury bill investments, foreign exchange services and financial advisory services. Wema Bank commenced operations under the name of Agbomagbe Bank Limited in 1945. In 1987, the bank transformed into a public limited company and in 2001, it was granted a universal banking licence by the Central Bank of Nigeria. Currently, the Bank’s majority equity of 90% belongs to both private and corporate investors, including staff of the Bank, while Odu’a Investment Company owns the remaining 10%. As of December 31, 2010, the bank had N216.98 billion in total assets and 120.9 billion in customers’ deposits. The bank operates a network of over 150 branches and service stations across Nigeria.
